Urban Roll, Urban Noshes!

You’re out for an urban ride and decide you want lunch. What do you do? We were in Willow Glen, so we stopped by Main Street Burgers on the way home from a local cruise and decided to check out the Willow Glen location.

The first thing we noticed were the bike racks located conveniently near the restaurant. The second thing was the dog-friendly patio seating (the railing can also double as a bike rack). Third, was the $10 all-inclusive lunch special.

We skipped the lunch special and went with gourmet burgers. The choices go on forever. The basic burger comes with onion, lettuce, tomato, pickles. I chose the California burger (pepper jack cheese, red onions, sprouts, avocado, tomato, pesto mayo, on a 9-grain bun). My partner went with the Cherry Bomb (cherry pepper relish with bacon, brie cheese, onion rings, garlic aioli on an egg bun) — can you say messy?

Gourmet burger heaven

The build-your-own burger offers almost 40 options to add to your patty. Speaking of which, you can choose from Niman beef, organic veggie burger, portobello mushroom, all-natural turkey burger, chicken breast or salmon filet. If you’re not on in the burger mood they have a several meal size salads (taco, cobb, salmon or steak), other sandwiches, fish tacos, and all beef hot dogs.

Local meals, locally sourced

After our meal at the high bar-type table, I talked with Hisham Abdelfuttah, Main Street Burger’s general manager. He says that all of the sauces (except the Siracha and ketchup) are made on-site. Also, all the produce, buns and ice cream are sourced locally. The day we stopped by Hishram told me all the produce was organic and the hot dogs were Kosher.

After you order, grab a seat on the patio or at the bar facing the window and watch the world go buy. There are also plenty of tables if you want to visit or watch sports on the overhead monitors. In a hurry? Grab your meal and go, although take-out orders eliminate beer or wine as a beverage option.

We finished our very filling burgers and sides of fries, then mounted our steeds and rolled homeward for another afternoon of magazine work.

You’ll find Main Street Burgers at two California locations: 1100 Lincoln Ave., San Jose, (408) 645-5571 or 20 Santa Cruz Ave. in Los Gatos, (408) 354-1881 and on the web at www.mainstburgers.com. Check the website for weekly specials.
